Why or why not?

There were some outside factors at play, but I bawled my eyes out. It was the line about Darman screaming Etain's name over and over again in his helmet that got me. Very well-written part. Neutral

I got sad but not cry-worthy when Darman talked to Delta about leaving Sev behind.

Anybody else gettin' sentimental?!

The part that "got" to me was that moment at the dinner table when Bard'ika was talking to Kad through the Force and tried to make him understand that he was safe with them now, and his realization that he was the only freak-- ahem, Jedi - left in the clan.

I didn't cry, but it was hard to read Kad in the last chapters. Wasn't worth crying about tho, Etain was a pain.

Okay, so I cry like a baby in most movies and some books. The way Etain died was RETARDED in my opinion, and I never really liked her to begin with. BUT, reading about Darman and Kad after, and even how Kal kinda broke down later, just made me lose it, lol. I didn't actually bawl, but I definitely teared a bit to the point where I needed a tissue. Razz

I didn't cry. I was more angry about this scene...actually more confused. When I first read the section about Etain's death, I thought she was trying to protect the Padawans from the Clones, not the other way around. After I reread it, though, I was like...okay, so we're trying to give her a death with dignity.

Regardless of who she was protecting, though, I kept thinking how stupid she was! She *KNEW* she had a husband and a child to take care of...a LIFE for pity's sake, and she threw it all away. If I were in her position on the bridge, I would have just RAN to MY family. Screw the galaxy and call me selfish. My family comes first to me. My kid deserves a mother and my husband deserves a wife.

Sad? No, just wanted to wring her already dead neck. Laughing

But what do I know? I'm only a wife and mother myself. Laughing

OK I admit it, while I didn't really care too much when Etain was killed, the reactions of those close to her, Darman, Kad, Kal etc. did make me a little teary eyed... And I agree with Ms.MaraJade, Etain did seem to throw her life away, without thinking of the consequences, and the effect it would have on others...

It's at occasions like these I'm glad that I'm a slow reader! That scene was really confusing indeed, and I had the hardest time getting into Etain's mind while thinking "what the eff are you doing, woman!" she was completely irrational, only following her stupid Jedi training. It was dumb, fatalistic, but it followed her decision to stay with the GAR while Jusik resigned in Zey's office. Life isn't that simplistic! People are allowed to change their minds about the direction they're taking! They can make the responsible choice when all odds seem to go against the...

Agh, it was just revolting, but I didn't cry over her. Good riddance. Kal's reaction however was a little too drawn out and we didn't need to witness all of it.

Congrats you got me to bring out Order 66 out of the bookshelf, I just had to put a quote of the exact thing that really nailed it for me.

Quote:
"Did you get a chance to ask Dar why he's still here?"
Boss paused, "Yeah."
"And?" Scorch expected news of Etain. His stomach clenched. "What, then?"
Boss swallowed. Scorch heard it. "All he said,"" Boss whispered, "was that he couldn't leave Nincer behind."
Scorch knew Boss well enough not to ask him how that made him feel.
He felt the same way.

Skirata's greaving was swell and all but it didn't hit home for me, simply because I didn't care that much for Etain to begin with, call me a cruel bastard if ya like.

But this short bit combined with Scorch's reaction when they had to leave Sev behind got to me. This small conversation is charged with so much controlled emotion when I read it it's like "damn" and I keep my mouth shut cause If I say anything else I might get clocked in the jaw by both Scorch and Boss <.<

Oh yeah. Scorch's reaction to leaving Sev was heart-string-tugging too, for sure. Just wanted to hug him.

You may call me a public enemy, but I did feel sorry for Etain, because I did like her (yes, dammit, I did), and though the scene on the bridge was confusing and stupid all right (I had the feeling that Traviss just couldn't find a decent way to do away with the poor girl, for die she must), on the scene of Etain's burial I cracked and started crying. Not exactely howling, but well... It was the toy-nerf that did me. Not surprising, really, because it was meant to be touching. On me its effect was not lost.

Another moment that got me was in the beginning of the book, when there was an explosion in the military base. Somehow it stood too vivid before my eyes. It's not a "crying" moment, but it was hard to read. For me, at least.

Frankly I got annoyed and a bit angry. Etain did the most selfish thing by saving that clone, the sacrifice isn't even justifiable since she essentially killed another clone who happened to be her husband and the father of her child, but in a way that's much worse. He's being tortured by her, making him unable to fulfill his duties as a father.

I felt for Darman, but no I didn't get sentimental. Razz

Okay so technically didn't cry... but it was heart wrenching enough Sad I had grown rather attached to those peeps and the irony kinda stuck deep. Night of Order 66... a "jedi" (yeah yeah she quit whatever still counts) killed by a jedi, saving a clone who was supposed to kill jedi and "jedi"... Makes me dislike jedi even more cheers

Well, I liked Etain, as well. And the reason why she protected the clones was because that was what they had been trying to do from the beginning. They probably reminded her of Darman too, and she could never let him die. Without her dieing first.
Whelp, their went all my rational thinking...

Just a little.

Ok, I did. So I'm a sap. But it was just too kriffing soul destroying for Dar, a man whose mando soul was damaged to begin with. Crying or Very sad On that note, it's stuff like this that makes me dislike the jedi. I can't even begin to comprehend just turning off my feelings like they do. It's like they don't care about anyone or anything.

I cried when watching Brother Bear.

KT has written much sadder death scenes in her sci-fi original series and I didn't cry over them... but I was so immersed in it with her characters that I'd re-read all 5 books again any day just to "visit them" (borrowing that turn of phrase from MsMaraJade Razz) I think Traviss has more love for her sci-fi Royal Marines than for Etain.

I didn't cry. I almost never cry when it comes to this sort of thing. (I had an hour-long discussion about this with my brother the other day. Apparently I'm cold and unfeeling, lol.)

I did feel kind of cold and sick for a while though. It was just very hard-hitting. I was angry at Etain, but I really felt for Darman, Kad, and Skirata.
