I'm just going to dump URLs and website names as I go, you can help as well but the point of this thread is to reference all the Mandalorian resources online.

Just curious, but why aren't the obvious resources of Traviss' site up here? Excuse me if I missed a thread where those belong, but it seemed to fit here. I'm still trying to get a feel for these forums, hehe.

Btw, the link to Traviss' site doesn't work anymore. Not sure if she changed where it was hosted, but here's the working one:

Hey forks. A few things.

First, I was looking through the links Daennika posted above, and Traviss' website leads to a '404 Error' page. Which is unfortunate...

Second, and if I'm asking this in the wrong place, I apologize. I need information on how to conduct a Mandalorian marriage.

I'm on a SW RPing site set during the KOTOR era, and my character (who is Mandalore...Canderous was killed, unfortunately) is marrying this gal named Boudica Sirona.

I know ceremonies aren't a huge thing among Mandalorians and that marriage is done informally, so I've simply taken a middle road, wherein during a clan gathering festival (Am Mod) one of the clan leaders says "Ok, let's get everybody adopted that wants to be," so it's a 'mass adoption' sort of thing. The clan leader (a fellow I've named Barrun Guar) is the 'witness' both for the adoptions, and the marriages that follow. So it's a mix of both informal (in that there are no huge individual parties) and formal (it's big clan gathering)...

ANYWAY. Minor details aside. I don't have any of Traviss' novels with me on hand, and the only text I managed to find off wookiepedia for their marriage contract is: Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar'tome, mhi me'dinui an, mhi ba'juri verde. So, if anybody has any idea what that phrase means, or what each partner should say to the other, or if the third party 'witness' should say anything, please help. Ideas welcome.

Did some research, and have a rough idea of it's meaning:

"We'll always be together, we'll never separate...[me'dinui an?]....we'll raise our children into warriours."

Hey Douglass Fett,

This is the best I could find for you. It’s taken directly from the “Order 66” novel. It’s the actual marriage of Ordo and Besany, as seen on page 37 in the hardcover version. They’re just sitting at the dining room table when the scene below takes place.

Disclaimer: I hope there are no copyright infringements here, and just to be safe: I’m not making any money and am simply rewriting a small scene in a book to help a fellow Mando’ade.

He placed his elbow on the table as if he was challenging her to arm wrestle. “Take my hand, then.”

She did, palm-to-palm, because Ordo had that way with him. She trusted him. She didn’t know if he was going to squeeze her fingers fondly or slam her hand to the table and declare victory.

Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar’tome, mhi me’dinui an, mhi ba’juri verde,” he said, eyes fixed on hers. “Now you say it.”

“What’s that?”

“A Mando marriage contract. If you agree, repeat it. It means we’re one whether we’re together or apart, that we share everything we have, and that we’ll raise our children as warriors.”

I’m certain someone could elaborate on this further, but the way I understand it is that Mandalorians vow a marriage as simply as they would a business contract. Therefore, if they decide to divorce, it is done the same way. The two parties just vow to end the contract. I know I read that somewhere, but I can’t remember exactly where.

Hope that helps!

Actually, a little looking through the comics that have been posted here would have given you some idea of the marriage bit. Wink More specifically, the "Mandalorian Culture" section on that page. Even more specifically, this page, in the "society" section, details (and translates) the marriage pact and gives a bit of information on adoption, as well. This page offers more of the adoption information and such in the "family" section. Of course, the whole thing is a good read, and I totally recommend it to everyone. Very Happy

What MMJ transcribed is pretty much exactly the process, both for marriage and adoption. There is no need, in either case, for there to be a third party (unless, of course, that party/parties are wanted).

Oh, also! Karen's new site is here. bounce

Thanks, appreciate it.

The funny thing about Mandalorian culture, that which has been expanded on the last several years, is that it seems to be more focused on their 'post-Imperial' history. I'd really love to see an article going into depth about the Crusaders and their zeal, an explanation of their atrocities (Cathar, Eres III, Duro, etc), rather than just a few paragraphs. Or am I the only one here that's a KOTOR fan?
