I went through my story submitting rules and thought that if we can copy/paste a little paragraph (or two...) of our new chapters it would draw more attention. Sometimes a story or chapter takes some time to get exciting, so maybe showing a little bit of the building-up moment, funny parts or dialogue...

I find it more interesting to get some of the "raw intel" rather than a fixed up, lazy summary or selling lines made by the author who might not like having to reduce his story or characters into a few words.

So let's discuss the pro's and con's of showing excerpts of our stories in here. I've yet to see other people do it in other communities, but I definitely see the benefits.

I would turn to prostitution for my story. If I haven't already.

I think it's a great idea to show some excerpts! :D

Yes; I already do this, so obviously I'm pro-excerpt. Razz It works good for me because of all the dialogue; it's attractive, but usually gives little away. A lot of the time, I can even just start with the first paragraph of the new chapter; otherwise, there's plenty to pick from.

I like excerpts, because if I see something that piques my interest, I'm more likely to keep reading until I find it, which means I'll probably keep reading after that, too. Razz

I wouldn't mind trying to pique further interest in what I write, but I'm also humble enough to know that if there's no interest, then I'll just walk away and stop being a nudge. Therefore, so I chose the "Maybe" selection.

Do I want more interest...HECK YEAH!

Do I expect it...*shrugs shoulders* I'll wait and see. If there's none, I won't keep harping on it. Wink

I like the idea of a preview too. I'm kind of terrible at writing summaries and I think excerpts do a better job of showing a person what they're going to read.
